Funny Things My Kids Said This Year

"What's this?  Is this a chocolate chip or poop?  It's black." -Elijah

When Eli opened a new kid electric toothbrush he said, "I have waited my whole life for this"

Getting Eli ready for church: Me - "Let me fix your collar." Eli- We don't have collars, only dogs have collars."

"Look I got a booger nail." - Elijah

While putting Eli to bed one night he asked me to sing babacoo.  I told him that I didn't know the words very well.  He said, "Yes you do!"  So I started singing.  After a few minutes he said, "Mom it's okay, Daddy is better."

Maverick screams, "Bus!" every time a bus drives by our house, which happens a lot!  He loves busses.

"Mom, I'm just texting Darth Vader to tell him not to go to the dark side." -Elijah

"Maverick!  Baby sister popped out!"  -Elijah (When my mom told him that Hazel was born.

The boys called Hazel baby sister for the first two months on her life.

Me - "Maverick what is your sisters name?"  Maverick - "Hazel Jame"

Photo Shoot | van Uitert Family

A few weeks ago I was able to work with this gorgeous family again.

Brothers

Sometimes my boys fight.  A lot.  And sometimes they play so well together my mother heart explodes with love for those two little blond boys.  I'm so grateful they have each other even if right now they aren't so grateful.  One day they will be best friends.  At least thats what I'm praying for?

These are pictures from a little photos shoot I did with the boys a few weeks ago.  I framed a few for their room.  Speaking of their room...It is officially done and I am so happy about that.

Baby Girl

Michael and I are thrilled to be having a little girl!

We would have been just as happy to find out we were having a boy.  I wouldn't have minded at all to be a mom of 5 boys.  But we are over the moon excited about having a little girl join our family.

The whole experience feels brand new again.  When we had the ultrasound with Maverick and found out he was a boy we were thrilled and excited, but this time it just feels like a whole new experience.  I can't quite put it into words so I'll just leave it at that.

The day we had our ultrasound we got home, Michael went to work and the boys went do for a nap.  What did I do you ask?  Well I jumped on the computer and started looking at fabric for blankets and cute hair bows!  Ya I was excited.

Anyway, I just wanted to take some time today to document some of the little girl things I am crushing on right now.

When we moved into this house I designed the nursery (which is almost finished) to be gender neutral   I wanted it that way because Maverick was already 1 and if we did have a girl I didn't want to turn around and redecorate.  I'm going to keep the nursery pretty much the same.  I'll probably add a few girly elements but I really love it the way it is.

Here is some fabric I fell in love with last week.  I think I'll make a quilt with this fabric.

Isn't this swimsuit just the cutest thing ever.  I'm sure it would cost $$$ but I can dream right! ;)

And I love these headbands

I also really like the hair bows and head bands that Michael's friend's wife Kristen makes and sells on ETSY.  You should check out her shop.

I'm not getting started on anything for the little lady yet.  I still feel like I have a lot to organize around our house (it takes FOREVER to feel "moved in"), and I want to finish things up downstairs and in Elijah's room first.  The nesting stage has already begun.

So for now I'll work and wait for a little of 5 months to meet this little girl.

Elijah

I thought it was about time I do a little spotlight on Elijah.  Man oh man does he bring a whole lot of spunk and adventure to our little family.  I'm sitting here staring at the computer screen looking at that little face up there and I have no idea where to start.  He may be little but the effect he has on all of us is anything but little.

Most of the time E-man is pretty loving.  He loves Maverick so much and when they wrestle or hug each other gently it just melts my heart.  I feel so blessed that we have two boys so close in age.  I hope that they will be best friends forever.

I'm pretty sure that Michael is Elijah's favorite person in the world!  He definitely preferes Michael over me.  Sometimes that's a hard pill to swallow but I guess Michael is a whole lot better at playing Star Wars than I am!  And really I'm so glad that they love each other so much.

His primary teachers say that he is very organized in class and always wants things to be done a certain way.  I can't even imagine where he gets that from! (wink, wink).

He really likes to play with other kids and ever since our move he has been dying to meet new friends.  I'm hoping Summer will bring more opportunities to be out and to meet some of the neighborhood kids.

Eli can also be such a little stinker!  I say that in the most loving way possible!

We are really struggling with bedtime right now.  I finally bit the bullet and ended nap time.  It was really, really hard for me to do but it has been worth it.  He goes to sleep a little earlier leaving me and Michael more time in the evenings.

We have also had some problems with talking back and just general rudeness and disobedience.  Basically Michael and I have absolutely no idea how to handle it.  Eli is just really different from us!  It's amazing how different your child can be from you even though you created him!

We have heard about some really great books that we are planning on reading that I hope will give us some tools to use.

I really do love this kid!  He is one big ball of energy that NEVER stops.  Back talking, fighting with his brother, and being rude are all difficult things to deal with, but none of those things could ever change how much I love him.  I just pray that I can be the parent he needs me to be.

I love you Elijah!

Granola

When I was pregnant with Elijah I went to Education Week at BYU.  In one of the classes I went to the teacher gave us a recipe for homemade granola.  It was good and ever since then we have made it off an on.  Well, the other day I stumbled upon this pin from Lovely Little Kitchen for a coconut almond granola.

It is SO good!  It's pretty much like eating candy for breakfast.  Which is why I think I might use a little less brown sugar next time I make it.  Really though, you should probably go make it right now, it's just that good!
